The publican/landlord was listed as Frederick Bax in a directory from 1854, but "F Bex" in 1866. James Rumble is listed in a directory from 1878 and he (as "James Rumbell") and his family (along with Georgina Howes, a barmaid, and Fanny M Clarke, a general servant) are mentioned in the 1881 census. Directories show George William Parsons in 1890, George Laurence in 1899, Sidney Edward Austen in 1913, 1915 and 1918, and Henry Ernest Bowley in 1930 and 1938.[2]
